Women are more likely to give birth early during a heatwave: Chance of early labour soars by 27% when temperatures are above 32C for more than four days

Dr Nathalie Auger, of the University of Montreal, said that heat-induced stress increases uterine contractility and that dehydration increases the release of hormones that induce labour.
